MEDIA MOVEMENTS — AUGUST 2009

New to MediaNZonline:

• Business Travel News — This weekly emailed newsletter from Tabs on Travel goes to airlines/hotel companies + other suppliers in the NZ travel industry.

• Decisionmaker Destinations — a new website featuring business reports on various areas in NZ and the Pacific, published by Tony Haas.

• Education Aotearoa — a new quarterly mag from New Zealand Educational Institute. It covers NZ primary and pre-school education, and has a print run of 50 000. Meanwhile, NZEI has discontinued ROUROU.

• MY WEDDING — launching September. This new quarterly, published by Gayle Dickson, will be distributed free to all brides-to-be attending Premier Wedding expos (NZ wide), and is available via retail.

• NZ Manufacturer — A new monthly publication from Media Hawke's Bay Ltd, covering industry news and manufacturing advances, both in NZ and overseas, plus information on trade fairs. Doug Green (ex Hayley Media) is the managing editor. Initial print run of 10 000.

• Pacific Scoop — Scoop launched a new online Pacific media service on August 30, in a joint project with AUT's Pacific Media Centre. It's hosted on the Scoop website, and will cover Maori, Pasifika and ethnic diversity issues.

• Stop.Press — From HB Media comes a free digital newsletter and website covering marketing, media, and advertising news. The editor is Frances Chan. It launched on August 31.

Changes:

• NZ Truth has become Truth Weekender, and is now published on a Friday (find it in Weekenders).

• In-Business Wellington magazine has gone national, and has dropped the "Wellington" from its name.

• Progressive Building+Info-Link magazine is the result of the merging of Info-Link New Zealand & South Pacific and Progressive Building (AGM Publishing Ltd).

People:

• Steve Bohling has been appointed Group Editor of Marketplace Media's Wares, OPE and Hardware Journal.

Steve replaces Ellen Read, who has joined the NBR as News Editor.

• New editor for NZ Autocar

Kyle Cassidy will take over as editor from Paul Owen from the October issue. Paul, who has edited the publication for 11 years, will continue to write features.

This quarter we've seen a number of deletions:

• Bright [business mag] — the August issue was the last, after NZTE decided not to produce it any more
• Decisionmaker Quarterlies (guides and policy forum)
• Drill [Powertool Records] — on hold for the time being
• INBOUND [travel mag]- on hold for 6 months
• MetPet Magazine - discontinued
• NZ Grape Grower - no longer running
• NZEI ROUROU discontinued [New Zealand Educational Institute publication]
• Truckbody and Trailer Magazine - not currently published
• VOICE (PRINZ) not being published at present
