| FOOD REVIEWS REVERSE THE STORY FLOW |
Usually it's a one-way flow through the MediaPeople server: PR people have stories to submit to the media — hundreds go through our server every month. Here's one against the flow.
Tracey Butler of the Dineout website is actually asking for press releases, ones which may be of interest to her audience of foodies and professional women.
Christchurch-based Dineout's latest review column covers eight restaurants in Christchurch, and one each in Auckland and Wellington. I looked at reactions to Zibibbo in Wellington, my home town. Four 2009 comments, all broadly favourable were contrasted with one very negative one but from 2004.
Maybe not complete coincidence. Restaurants until recently had the option to opt out, and also to reinstate themselves. Now, however, all comments are posted, but also advertorial enters the site through featured restaurants who want to have a bob each way.
Tracey also says that the apparent bias towards Christchurch is complete coincidence and things could be completely different within days as new reviews flow in from other locations.
But I'll give Zibibbo a run this week and see for myself.
