Air Safari to descend on Otago

Sixty aircraft will be flying to Otago on Wednesday 31 March as part of the Classic Hits Around New Zealand Air Safari.

Air Safari Event Director John McLean says, "Come on down to your local Aero Club to meet the pilots, check out the aircraft and discover the adventure of flying.

"There'll be a huge range of flying machines on display; from the latest European gyrocopters, to a World War Two flying boat!"

The event is organised by Flying NZ Airsports Ltd and runs from 10am to 2pm at Omarama or Oamaru Aerodromes. A decision on which airfield to use will be made based on weather.

Two lucky people will win free flights from the North Otago Aero Club. Classic Hits radio will be broadcasting details of the competition in the lead up to the event.

The ten-day safari departs Auckland on 23 March and weaves its way through 17 airfields across the country, finishing in Queenstown on 1 April in time for Warbirds Over Wanaka.

The Air Safari charity partner is the Life Flight Trust. The Trust runs a national air ambulance service, flying more than 1,000 people throughout the country to urgent medical care every year.

Life Flight is a registered charity and relies on public donations to keep flying. For more information and to help save lives visit www.lifeflight.org.nz.
